Xiaomi has taken the next step in developing its own mobile chipset.

Xiaomi is making another move in the development of its smartphone silicon, according to a new report from China. Xiaomi has created a dedicated chip platform division for its mobile phone manufacturing units.

Xiaomi has announced that former Qualcomm senior director Qin Muyun will head the new division, who will report directly to Xiaomi founder and CEO Lie Jun.

A few days ago, Xiaomi announced that it would be using its own mobile processor in its new Xiaomi 15 series, the Xiaomi 15s, and this move is seen as the next step.

Xiaomi made a foray into chip form factor in 2017 with its in-house Pengbao S1 SoC, which was an octa-core 64-bit SoC based on a 28nm process, but the phone failed to gain traction and the S1 line quietly languished in the spotlight.

Although Xiaomi faced some initial setbacks in chip production in 2017, they did not let up on chip development and continued to push forward.

XIAOMI NEW FLAGSHIP CHIPSET DETAILS

The chip is expected to feature an octa-core CPU using ARM cores, including a 3.25Ghz Cortex-X925 core, three 2.60Ghz Cortex-A725 cores, and four 2.0Ghz Cortex-A520 cores.

The frame uses a recent MediaTek 9400 processor, while the high-performance and performance cores are from the same family, so while they won’t directly compete with the latest flagships, their sub-flagship phones could offer solid performance.

Also, its GPU performance may be on par with the Snapdragon 8 general 2, and not only that, but the Adreno 740 used in it will also surpass it.

Currently, there are various types of competition in the mobile chipset industry. Each company is interested in creating its own chipset. Especially Samsung has launched its own Exynos processor. Similarly, Huawei has its own Kirin chipset for mobile phones. Apple is still using its own chipset. The competition for this mobile chipset is becoming interesting. We will have to wait and see how it turns out later.
